Abstract

855,058. Turbine and compressor blades. ROLLS-ROYCE Ltd. Feb. 11, 1958 [Feb. 22, 1957], No. 6130/57. Class 110 (3). Blades 14 of an axial-flow turbine or compressor have internal bores 25 extending lengthwise of the blade and interconnected at their ends to afford a sinuous flowpath having an odd number of courses, through which heating or cooling fluid flows, there being an inlet 30 and an outlet 33 at either end of the path and blade. A bleed hole 37 at the end of the first course and an inlet hole 38 in one or more of the courses other than the first, each having a smaller cross-sectional area than that of the bore, may also be provided. A course may be afforded by a single bore or a plurality of bores in parallel; a blade may be provided with a number of sinuous flow paths.
