843,167. Rectifier arrangements. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES Ltd. Feb. 10, 1959, No. 4565/59. Class 37. Equal numbers of rectifier plates are mounted on opposite sides of a cooling unit, through which a coolant is passed, with their like electrodes in direct thermal contact with the cooling unit. Fig. 1 shows an exploded cooling unit with inlet 7 and outlet 8 for its coolant and mounting studs 4 to which the rectifier plates are attached in a manner shown in Fig. 3. The rectifier plates 11 are mounted on the studs 4, but separated therefrom by an insulating collar 12, in such a manner that the base electrode 13 side of the rectifier is in direct thermal and electrical contact with the sides of the cooling chamber. Contact between the counter electrode 14 and minor input bus-bars 15 is made via a metal diaphragm 16 and a metallic spacing member 17. If required a minor bus-bar 18 is connected to the stud 4 by means of metallic washers 19 and an insulating washer 20. The whole assembly is held in place by nuts 21. Projection 9 in Fig. 1 may be used as the common base connection to all the rectifiers or alternatively this connection may be made by means of bus-bars 18. Connection is made to the counter electrodes by means of bus-bars 15 and arrangements of the rectifiers in rows and columns by a suitable use of bus-bars 15 are described suitable for half or full wave single phase rectification or for rectification in a sixphase diametric supply or six phase double star connected supply.
