Abstract

842,600. Fastening railway rails. LEWIS, E. M. Sept. 26, 1956 [Oct. 3, 1955], No. 28100/55. Class 104 (2). In a railway rail fastening means comprising a base-portion 10, bolted to a support 15, and a tongue portion 11 extending from and overlying the base portion 10 so as to press downwards on the rail flange 16, the plane of the base-portion 10 is curved so that when the bolts 14 holding the base portion 10 to the support 15 are tightened the base portion 10 is flattenec against the support 15 to provide a minimun locating force to resist lateral movement of th( rail. In the arrangements shown, the clip is held in position on a support such as a girder 15 by two bolts 14 or nuts screwed on studs. A rubber buffer strip 17 is interposed between the edge of the rail flange 16 and the edge of the base 10 of the clip. The strip 17 may be separate or integral with a rubber pad 18 placed beneath the rail. In the latter case the pad 18 is formed as a shallow channel, the walls on both sides forming the strips 17. If a pad 18 is used the clip is mounted on a packing-piece 19 which may be welded to the upper surface of the girder 15. If a packing-piece 19 is used the strip 17 may be attached by rubber to metal bonding to the packing-piece 19. The packing-piece 19 may be provided with an upwardly-extending flange 20 at its edges remote from the rail. Specification 775,869 is referred to.
