Abstract
845,863. Gabions. PENFOLD FENCING & ENGINEERING Ltd., and McKELL, K. Nov. 14, 1956 [Aug. 15, 1955], No. 23494/55. Class 68(2). A gabion blank is constructed of metal chainlink mesh with metal wire framework outlining the blank, the framework wire being threaded through the convolutions of the metal chain-link mesh. The blank may have panels 26, 27, 28, 29, 30, Fig. 1, forming the bottom and sides respectively of the assembled gabion, the panel 29 being extended so that a portion 21 thereof may be bent over to form the top when the gabion has been filled with earth or like material. Two bendable rectangular metal frames 22, 23 form the outline of the blank, a wire 35 passed through the convolutions of the mesh and hooked at its ends around the frame 23 marks the fold line in the panel 29 to delineate the top portion 21, and wire 36 threaded through the convolutions of the mesh and hooked around the frame 23 is also passed through the mesh which forms a partition 20 and thus provides a hinge wire therefor. The remaining sides of the partition 20 are outlined by a wire 37. In a modification the panels 28, 30 are formed separately from the remainder of the blank and each is outlined by a separate rectangular wire frame, the panels 28, 30 being hinged by clips 40, Fig. 7, to the frame surrounding the remainder of the blank. In a further form six separate panels are hinged together by clips.
