Abstract
844,724. Axial-flow fans. HUDSON ENGINEERING CORPORATION. July 15, 1958, No. 22623/58. Addition to 843,995. Class 110(1). Sockets 14, Fig. 2, bolted to a fan-hub 15, each receive the shank 13a of a fan blade. Each blade, after adjustment of its pitch, is fixed in position by means of screws 38 which forces the blade radially outwardly so that a shoulder 31 on the blade shank tightly engages retainer ring segments 32 which are housed in an annular groove in the corresponding socket 14. If necessary, one or more of the screws 38 may be tightened more than the others to adjust the position of the centre of the gravity of the blade. To remove a blade, the screws 38 are slackened off and the retainer ring segments 32 are prised from the annular groove, whereupon the blade can be tilted as shown until its tip is clear of a surrounding stationary shroud ring and then withdrawn. This procedure is reversed when inserting a blade. In addition to the annular groove in the socket 14, an annular groove for engaging the retainer ring segments 32 may also be formed on the shoulder 31. The retainer ring segments may be of conically-tapered form as shown in Fig. 6, to engage a similarly tapered shoulder 35a on the blade shank. When the blade shank is of plastics or other soft material, a metal ring 39, Fig. 2, or 47, Fig. 6, may be provided between the blade shank and the screws 38.
