Abstract

A moulded non-metallic brake lining is made from asbestos fibre-45 parts, cotton linters-25 parts, polymerized cashew nut shell oil dust-10 parts with a phenol formaldehyde resin binder making up the remainder by weight. Specifications 644,447 and 655,842 are referred to.ALSO:A sintered ferrous brake lining consists essentially of iron, graphite in quantities of 20% to 30% by weight, and bismuth in quantities of from 3% to 10% by weight. In an example disclosed in the Specification, the sintered metallic brake lining is made from a sintered mixture of iron-67 parts, graphite-30 parts, copper-8 parts and bismuth-5 parts by weight.
