Abstract
<PICT:0832123/III/1> In a solar still of the type which comprises an outer transparent waterproof shell which can be distended by inflation and an absorbent fabric bag which is supported in spaced relationship to the shell, and is provided with means for introducing salt water into the shell and a distilled water chamber with run-off, the shell is adapted to be distended by an inner framework of inflatable tubes which, when inflated, press out and stretch the shell thereover, leaving the remainder of the air space enclosed by the shell filled by air at atmospheric pressure. In a preferred embodiment upper and lower ring-like tubes 12 are secured inside the shell 1 and are connected together by eight substantially semi-circular tubes 13, all in communication one with the other so that they inflate to a spherical shape. Inflation is effected through a tube 14 which may have a non-return valve or means to allow deflation if required. Top ring 12 is close to the drip feed compartment which is fed through funnel 3 and the bottom ring 12 is disposed near the bottom vent opening 11. Specification 788,753 is referred to.
