Abstract
The invention comprises quaternary ammonium compounds of the general formula <FORM:0830909/IV (b)/1> (wherein Q represents a saturated or unsaturated aliphatic or mixed aliphatic-alicyclic radical composed of two isoprene residues, R3 represents a radical having one of the formulae <FORM:0830909/IV (b)/2> R1, R2 and R4 each represent an alkyl radical of 1-6 carbon atoms, an aralkyl radical or a mixed aliphatic-alicyclic radical and Z- is an anion), and the preparation thereof by known methods for producing quaternary ammonium compounds (e.g. by reacting a tertiary amine Q-R3-NR1R2 with a quaternating agent R4Z, which process may be combined with the preparation of the tertiary amine by reacting a primary amine Q-R3-NH2 or a secondary amine Q-R3-NHR1 with an N-substituting agent (or two such agents when starting with a primary amine) in the presence of an alkali). The products are useful as spasmolytic agents, having both musculotropic and neurotropic action. Examples describe the preparation of compounds containing as the grouping Q-R3-a dihydro-b -ionyl, #Y-ionyl or tetrahydro-#Y-ionyl radical.
