Abstract

822,194. Fuel injection pumps. C.A.V. Ltd. Aug. 30, 1957 [Sept. 7, 1956 ; Feb. 20, 1957], Nos. 27411/56 and 5711/57. Class 102(1). A fuel injection pump having a feed pump b with relief valve e feeding the injection pump through a manually controlled throttle s, and having a rotary distribution n, comprises a rotary cylinder block g carrying pistons i which are actuated by a cam m which is angularly adjustable. The cam has an arm v which engages a plunger x in a cylinder y, loaded by a spring 5 and operating as a dash pot such that when the piston rollers k engage the cam m the cam is rotated by the rollers to a greater or lesser angular extent, depending on the filling of the cylinder h and is advanced by the spring 5 after each injection. Two modifications are described in which the piston x is slidable in a cylinder which is slidable in the cylinder y and subjected at one end to the outlet pressure of the feed pump b.
