In a dry cell having a mercuric oxide cathode and a caustic potash electrolyte, the inner surface of the cell container-at least at and above the level of the anode-consists of an epoxy resin. The container may be made wholly of an epoxy resin rendered conductive by carbon loading or, as shown, the container 1 may be of zinc coated above and down to the level of the anode 4 with epoxy resin 9.
