Abstract
820,328. Pipe joints. GARRETT CORPORATION. Aug. 9, 1956 [Aug. 18, 1955], No. 24400/56. Class 99(1). [Also in Group XXV] A clamp, for connecting flanged elements, consists of spaced cables connected by saddles which engage over and force together a pair of flanges, and means for tightening the cables. The saddles 16 are clipped to the cables 14, 15 by hooks 19, 20 and grip the flanges 10, 11 of pipes &c. by the inclined faces 12, 13, in Fig. 1, the cables 14, 15 being formed as a single cable passing through a hole 21 in a nut 22 threaded on a bolt 23, the end 24 of which bearing on a block 25 to which the ends of cables 14, 15 are clamped by a plate 26 and a screw 27. In operation the screw 23 is rotated to force the nut 22 and block 25 apart and thus tightening the clip and force the flanges together. In a modification, Figs. 5 and 6 (not shown), two end saddles carry a block supporting the tightening bolt, a nut threaded on the bolt having two slots to receive the ends of the cables on which are abutments, similar abutments being fixed to the opposite ends of the cables to abut the end saddle. Rotation of the bolt forces the nut and block apart to tighten the clamp.
