Abstract
825,332. Aircraft undercarriages. BLACKBURN & GENERAL AIRCRAFT Ltd., FORSYTH, D., and KINROY, R. N. Feb. 19, 1958, No. 5417/58. Class 4. In a nose wheel landing gear for aircraft in which the nose wheel or wheels is carried by a leg, which may include means for imparting steering movement, the leg is fast at an angle to at least one pivoted member and is moved by a telescopic jack between retracted and extended operative positions in the latter of which there is abutment against a pressure pad and locking by a hook. The leg 5 is carried by a beam 6, Fig. 2 (not shown), attached at its ends to a pair of members 8 pivotally mounted in the airframe at 8<SP>1</SP> and arranged with their axes at an appreciable angle e.g. 96 degrees, to the axis of leg 5. The leg 5 carries a cranked extension 4 to which is pivoted a trailing arm 3 carrying wheel or wheels 1, a shock absorber, not shown, being mounted between arm 3 and extension 4. The leg or ram is pivotally connected to a forked extension 10 of the ram of an hydraulic telescopic jack 11 which swings the assembly about pivots 8<SP>1</SP> between the chain-dotted retracted position and the full-line extended position wherein the beam 6 bears against a pressure pad 12 secured to the airframe and the assembly is locked in position by a pendulous hook 13 pivoted at 14 and connected by a push-pull link 16 to a jack, not shown. When retracted, the leg 5 bears against a pad 22 attached to a structural element 21, (which the cranked parts 5 and 8 of the assembly are arranged to clear) and the assembly is locked in this position by a hook 17 engaging a part 19 on beam 6, the hook being controlled by a jack 18.
