Abstract

824,448. Air filters. CONCONI, E. M., and BERTONE, A. Aug. 6, 1957 [Sept. 22, 1956; Feb. 5, 1957], No. 24776/57. Class 8(2). An air intake filter suitable for use with an I.C. engine comprises a porous mass of material 7, Fig. 1, capable of developing and maintaining an electrostatic charge and enclosed between meshes 5 and 6 one of which is of metal and the other of dielectric material e.g. polyvinyl chloride. The porous mass may comprise fibrous or granular particles of synthetic products of acrylic resins, polyvinyl, phenolic resins or polyethylene and the mass may be soaked in electrostatically acting oil. As shown the inner and outer meshes 6, 7, of metal and p.v.c. respectively are supported by end rings 3, 4, secured in channel members 1, 2. In a modification the cartridge 14, Fig. 3, is of disc form held between an apertured plastic cap 11 and a bowl-shaped member 9 by retaining rings 17, 18 and a clamp 12, 13 ; a rubber sealing ring 19 being provided.
