Abstract

Compositions comprising a finely divided mixture of a clay and a minor amount of urea may be used as fillers in polyvinyl and polyvinylidene chloride resins. The clay may be a kaolin, illite or montmorillonite clay. The compositions preferably contain 0.5 to 2 parts by weight of urea per 100 parts of clay.ALSO:Compositions comprise polyvinyl or polyvinylidene chloride resins, finely divided clay urea in amount sufficient to inhibit thermal discoloration of the compositions in the presence of the clay. The resins may be homopolymers or copolymers of vinyl and/or vinylidene chloride containing a major proportion of vinyl and/or vinylidene chloride. Specified clays are kaolin, illite and montmorillonite clays. The compositions may also contain plasticizers, e.g. dioctyl phthalate, stabilizers, e.g. barium and cadmium laurates, polyesters and basic lead carbonate, colouring materials, fillers and lubricating aids. The compositions may be formed into shaped articles, films and sheets.
