Abstract

Accumulator separators are made from a composition consisting of rubber latex 24 lbs., kieselguhr 100 lbs., sodium methacrylate 15 per cent solution 4 1/2 lbs., carboxymethylcellulose 1 per cent solution 4 1/2 litres, water 123 litres, wetting agent 250 ml. After mixing, the composition is pasted or sprayed on to supporting sheets of paper or glass wool. The resulting sheets are sufficiently soft to cause the battery plates to become embedded in them when assembled in the battery.
