Abstract
801,645. Endless conveyers. SYNCRO MACHINE CO. Nov. 23, 1956 [Dec. 13, 1955], No. 35915/56. Class 78 (1). A hauling device for pulling heavy wire or cable in a processing operation consists of a pair of endless chains 80, 82 equipped with gripper shoes 81, 83 respectively arranged with opposed reaches on opposite sides of the cable C and pressed into contact with the cable by means of a pair of pressure rails 41, 42 positioned behind the respective chains and arranged for simultaneous sliding movement towards and away from the cable path. The sliding movement of the rails 41, 42 is accomplished by the provision on a base-plate 10 of a pair of grooved rails 29, 30 between which two slide members 31, 32 are mounted for sliding movement towards and away from one another. The rails 41, 42 are mounted on these slide members by sets of plates 33-36 and 37-40 respectively. These plates are of T-section, forming two recesses in one of which is secured the corresponding pressure rail 41 or 42 while bars 43- 50 form with the other recess guideways for the reception of rails 53, 54 which bear against the return runs of the chains. Springs 56 are mounted between blocks 59 on the rails 53, 54 and bars 51, 52 secured to plate 10 for urging the rails outwards to tension the chains 80, 82. The slides 31, 32 are connected for simultaneous movement towards and away from the cable by the provision of racks 70, 71 on them which co-operate with freely mounted pinions 67. Two fluid-pressure cylinders 61, 62 are mounted on the slide 32 in cut-away portions of plate 10, their piston rods being, secured to brackets 64 on the plate 10. Pressure fluid is admitted to the upper ends of the cylinders to cause the cable to be gripped and to the lower ends of the cylinders to release the cable. Each shoe 81 or 83 on the chain consists of a block of resilient material which is bonded to a channel-shaped plate 85 which can be slid on to and from a plate 87 carried by brackets 88 from the chain.
