Abstract
808,939. Electric bed warmer. SARPSBORG ELEKTRISKE FABRIKKER, SEFA, A. S. Nov. 13, 1956 [Nov. 15, 1955], No. 34740/56. Class 39(3) [Also in Group XXXVI] A bed warmer comprises an outer cylindrical casing 1 of 3-4 inches diameter and 3-5 feet in length of material of low specific gravity, great strength and good electrically insulating material e.g. of plastic or paper glued together with waterglass, having centred within it a preferably metallic tube 6 slightly less in length and of much smaller cross-section than the casing and containing a rod-shaped electric heating element 7. The tube 6 is centred by spacing members 8 welded thereto within the casing 1. The element 7 is a wire 13 passed to and fro in straight lengths in longitudinal holes in a steatite cylinder 14, the ends of the wire being connected to a two wire cable 18 extending through a flanged metal end plate 2 of the casing 1. Axial displacement of the inner tube 6 is prevented by an end bracket 9 welded thereto and forked at its outer end 10 where it is supported on and insulated from the end plate 2. The cable 18 is surrounded by a rubber tube 20 and is clamped at 21 to the bracket 9 to relieve tension of an outward pull on the cable. Terminals 15, 16 of the wire 13 and cable are mounted on conductors 23 on an insulating support 17 on the bracket 9. The heater consumes about 15 watts and warms the bed to about 45C.
