Abstract

806,848. Rotary sprayers. AMBERG, W. E. Jan. 7, 1957, No. 612/57. Class 69 (3). Liquid from a supply 19 is fed to the hollow hub 11 of a rotary member 10 driven by a shaft 15, and passes through radial passages 18 and between the base of a cone 29 and a circular plate 13 to a shallow annular chamber 21 in the said plate. Centrifugal forces cause liquid to flow over the annular edge of the chamber 21 to a second annular chamber 23 from which the liquid passes via grooves 25 into reservoirs 44. The latter are provided within a bracket 33 riveted to the plate 13, and each reservoir, in which liquid is trapped by centrifugal forces, consists of a wall 35 of the bracket and a flange 43 which faces in the direction of rotation. The trailing sides of each reservoir include a linear spillage edge 45, Fig. 3, parallel to the axis of rotation, from which liquid is flung in atomized form at a rate depending upon the liquid feed rate. Fan blades 47, 51, Fig. 3, located inwardly and outwardly of the spillage edges create air currents which aid the dispersion. In the embodiment of Figs. 8 and 9 a bracket 64 is secured to a rotary plate 61 containing an annular chamber 63 to which liquid is fed via a hollow hub 65. Liquid is trapped in the chamber and within reservoirs 69 formed by walls 67, 68 of the bracket and, depending on the liquid feed rate, flows in atomized form from spillage edges 70. Fig. 11 shows an embodiment in which liquid is fed from a hollow hub 83 and hollow bosses 89 to reservoirs 87 each having a spillage edge 88. The atomizer of Figs. 13 and 14 includes a rotary body 101 on hollow shafts 102 through which liquid is fed to annular chambers 108. The body 101 consists of walls 103 joined by webs 104, and provides four reservoirs 105 in which liquid is trapped. Liquid flows from the chambers 108 to the reservoirs and is atomized from the spillage edges 106. In a further construction the webs 104 are omitted.
