Abstract

The invention comprises salicylic acid 2 : 6-dimethyl-4-n-propoxybenzoate and its preparation by reacting salicylic acid with the appropriate acylating agent. Preferably 2 : 6-dimethyl-4-n-propoxybenzoyl chloride is used in the presence of an acid-binding agent, e.g. a tertiary amine, but the esterification may also be carried out with the appropriate anhydride or by transesterification. An example of the preferred method is given.ALSO:Salicylic acid 2 : 6 - dimethyl - 4 - n - propoxybenzoate is made up into pharmaceutical compositions such as aqueous formulations, tablets, capsules, elixirs and non-aqueous suspensions.
