Abstract

Bactericidal detergent compositions comprise (a) N-sodium N-chloroparatoluene sulphonamide, preferably in the proportion by weight of 95 to 99 parts; (b) a compound having the formula P-A-P, where P is a phenyl group having an OH group in the 2 position from the linking group A and at least one chlorine substituent and A is CH2 or S, preferably in the proportion by weight of 5 to 1 parts, and (c) a detergent, particularly of the anionic or non-ionic type such as an alkylaryl sulphonate, an alkyl sulphonate, a sulphated fatty alcohol, a sulphated olefin such as "Teepol" (Registered Trade Mark), or a succinic acid derivative. The anionic detergent may be present as the sodium, potassium, ammonium, or triethanolamine salt. Builders and fillers, such as sodium metasilicate, sodium orthophosphate, pyrophosphate, and polyphosphates, sodium carbonate and sodium sulphate, may also be incorporated. Specified P-A-P compounds are 2,21 - dihydroxy - 3,31,5,51,6,61 - hexachlorodiphenylmethane, 2,21-dihydroxy - 5,51 - dichlorodiphenylmethane and 2,21-thiobis-(4,6-dichlorophenol).ALSO:A bactericidal composition comprises N-sodium N-chloroparatoluene sulphonamide preferably in the proportions by weight of 95 to 99 parts and a compound having the formula P-A-P where P is a phenyl group having an OH group in the 2 position from the linking position A and at least one chlorine substituent, and A is CH2 or S preferably in the proportion by weight of 5 to 1 parts. Specified P-A-P compounds are 2,21-dihydroxy-3,31,5,51,6, 61-hexachlorodiphenylmethane, 2,21 - dihydroxy-5,51 - dichlorodiphenylmethane, 2,21 - thiobis (4,6-dichlorophenol). A detergent, particularly the anionic or non-ionic type, preferably having good wetting properties such as alkylaryl sulphonates, alkyl sulphonates (which may be either of the sulphated fatty alcohol type or of the sulphated olefin type such as "Teepol" (Registered Trade Mark)), and succinic acid derivatives together with the usual mineral builders and fillers of detergent products, such as sodium metasilicate, orthophosphates, pyrophosphates, sodium polyphosphates, sodium carbonate, sodium sulphate may also be incorporated in the compositions.
