Abstract
790,464. Rolling screw-threads. GUEST KEEN & NETTLEFOLDS (MIDLANDS), Ltd., and ACTON BOLT, Ltd. Aug. 7, 1956 [Sept. 26, 1955], No. 24118/56. Class 83 (4). In thread-rolling apparatus with a rotary threading roller 1, Fig. 2, and a stationary segmental die 3, the work is carried by a notched feed-wheel 11 to a gap formed between a yielding pressure pad 17a and the roller 1 which leads to the rolling gap 6 and permits the screws to take up the correct alignment before the threading operation commences. The pad 17a is pivoted at 18 to the fixed frame 4 carrying the segmental die 3 and is pressed towards the roller 1 by an adjustable leaf-spring 19, Fig. 1, through a pin 20 engaging a stud 17i. The screws to be threaded are carried along a fixed rail 9 by a moving belt 8 until engaged between a guide 16 and the wheel 11. Slots 17g are provided in the pads 17a for the notched wheel 11 and a thin guide strip 23 secured to the rail 9 flush with its upper surface and passing in a semi-circle over the wheel 11 to the pad 17a provides a smooth guiding surface for supporting the heads of the screws.
