798,316. Stays for hinged articles. HOOD, G. W. G., and STRASBOURG, A. March 20, 1956, No. 8732/56. Class 65(1) In a window stay comprising an arm pivoted at one end to the fixed structure and having the other end slidably engaged with a guide bar 11 on the window frame by means of a crosshead 16, a stop member 20 provided with one or more buttons 21 can be detachably engaged with keyhole slots 22 in the guide bar only when the window is in the closed position. The opening of the window is limited by the stop member sliding along the guide bar until the button 21 engages the end 25 of the keyhole slot, preventing further movement of the crosshead 16 towards the hinge axis 9. In another form hooks 31 on the stop member co-operate with notches 33 on the guide bar to allow the detachment or engagement of the stop member with the guide bar only when the window is closed. Sliding movement of the stop member, and hence the crosshead, toward the hinge axis is limited by a stop 35 on the guide bar.
