Classes 79(3) and 79(4) [Also in Group XXXII] A vehicle chassis frame comprises two overlapping spaced portions each of which comprises two laterally spaced longitudinal members 10, 11 and 18, 19 to which are secured two spaced cross members 12, 13 and 21, 22 so as to form two horizontal four-sided frames connected together by upright members 31 to 34 to form other four-sided frames which extend in an up and down direction, each of these frames being provided with at least one diagonally extending tie member 36, 37, 39, 40, so that a rigid box-like structure is provided between the overlapping portions of the two pairs of members 10, 11 and 18, 19, which members extend from the box-like structure in cantilever fashion. As shown in the Figure accompanying the Provisional Specification the horizontal frames may also be provided with diagonally extending tie members 35 and 38. Additional cross members 14, 15 and 20 may extend beyond the longitudinal members, and the cross members 12 to 15 may be connected by additional longitudinal members 16, 17. Alternatively, separate outrigger members 74 (Fig. 7) may be welded to the longitudinal members 10, 11. These members 74 are of outwardly diminishing channel section and are welded at 76 and 79 to channel members 16. A back axle engine unit may be attached to one or more of the members 22, 13, 14 and 15. As shown in Fig. 6 the junctions of the longitudinal members, cross members and vertical members are welded together and strengthened by means of channel shaped connecting members 60 and 64 having triangular flanges 61, 62 and 65, 66 respectively. The longitudinal members 18, 19 are connected by a cross beam 42 comprising two vertical plates 45 provided with flanges 46 and 48, and downward extensions at each end. An arched plate 49 is welded between the plates 45 and provided with anchorages for a cross spring (not shown) for the front wheel suspension (see Group XXXII). Specification 736,208 is referred to.
