Abstract

795,888. Joint-making packing. JAPOLSKY, N. S., and NICOTRON DEVELOPMENTS, Ltd. Oct. 3, 1956 [Aug. 2, 1955], No. 22225/55. Class 122 (3). [Also in Group XXVIII] A fluid-tight joint is provided between adjacent surfaces on two members such as flanged pipes 1, 2 by means of a rubber &c. sleeve 13 which enters grooves 3 in the surfaces aided by a vacuum applied at the bottom of each groove and is pressed against the outer or inner walls of the grooves according to whether the pressure inside the pipes is greater or less than that outside. In assembling the joint a screw plug 9 is removed and the vacuum applied to a bore 10 so as to suck in the sleeve 13 to the required depth.
