Abstract

783,846. Shovelling machines. KNOBEL, M. May 22, 1956, No. 15708/56. Class 68(1) The manually controlled hydraulically - actuated rack and pinion mechanism for rotating scoop-carrying arms 5 in mountings on each side of the chassis of an overthrow shovelling machine has means for automatically cutting off the supply of liquid under pressure to the mechanism at pre-determined limit positions of the arms. In addition, an hydraulically - actuated tilt mechanism for rotating the scoop 10 in mountings on the arms 5 is manually controlled to move and hold the 'bucket in charging and discharging positions but is under automatic control during movement of the arms from above ihe front discharge position to the rear discharge position in order to maintain the scoop in such a position that the contents of the scoop are retained therein The arms 5 and a pair of pinions 7 are rigidly mounted on a shaft 6, the pinions 7 being engaged by racks 8. A single-acting ram 9 secured to the frame of the vehicle acts on each end of each rack to cause reciprocation of the associated rack. At the predetermined limits of movement of the arms 5, a striker plate 31 on one arm engages bell crank levers 29 to move a rod 27 to move, through a lost motion connection, the manual control lever 24 of the control valve 24b of the hydraulic circuit to the rams 9 to cause said valve to close. The mechanism for rotating the scoop consists of a pair of double acting, hydraulically actuated jacks 12, 13, a hydraulic circuit to said jacks including pressure supply means, a control valve 15b in said circuit having manual actuating means 15, 15a and having a cam track 21 on one of the arms 5 for an engaging relationship with a roller 22 on the control lever 15 of the manual-actuating means 15, 15a.
