Abstract
781,140. Multiple fastenings. BAUMIER, M. Nov. 1, 1955 [Nov. 16, 1954]. No. 31189/55. Class 44 [Also in Group XVII] In a receptacle 26 having a cover 1 adapted to seat against a shoulder 27 in an open top of the receptacle, of the kind wherein the cover has radially movable arms 18-21 slidably retained by guide means 22-25 on the cover the arms being coupled pivotally to a common rotary member 5 mounted on the cover whereby rotation in one direction of the rotary member causes outward movement of the arms to engage at their free ends with the receptacle to lock the cover to the receptacle and rotation in the other direction of the rotary member causes inward movement of the arms to disengage them from the receptacle and release the cover, means being provided for positively locking the rotary member against rotary movement, the receptacle side walls extend upwardly beyond the shoulder 27 and its corners have apertures 28-31 to receive the free ends of the arms, the upper bevelled surfaces of the free ends of the arms engaging in said corner apertures thereby to wedge the cover against the shoulder as the arms are forced outwardly to locking position. The cover has a recess around the periphery of its lower surface which receives a jointing member for making an airtight joint with the shoulder 27. The rotary member is a disc which is mounted on a shaft 4 attached to the cover and the disc is provided with a cut-out portion 6 the ends of which limit its rotation by engaging a lug on the cover. The disc is rotated by means of handles 9, 10 each handle consisting of a member 11 secured to the disc and a member 12 which is pivoted to the member 11 and which form the locking means for the rotary member. When the two members 12 are raised the disc can be rotated and when the locking arms are engaged with their apertures they are locked in position by folding the two pivoted members 12 on to the fixed members 11 and in such position since the members 12 are L-shaped the short arms of each engage a slot in the arms 19 and 21 respectively. To drain water from the top of the cover the receptacle side walls are provided with holes.
