Abstract
Alkaloids obtained from Veratrum drugs or extracts thereof by electrodialysis of an aqueous solution of the drug having an acidity not greater than that of 20 per cent aqueous acetic acid are extracted from the catholyte by increasing the pH to 9 with ammonia followed by treating with a water-immiscible solvent, such as chlorinated aliphatic hydrocarbons, aliphatic ethers, and aromatic hydrocarbons, numerous examples of which are specified, and then evaporating off the solvent.
