Abstract

770,547. Fluid-pressure servomotor-control systems. GARRETT CORPORATION. July 30, 1954 [Aug. 10, 1953], No. 22294/54. Class 135. An outlet valve 22 for a pressurized enclosure such as an aircraft cabin is actuated through a lever 46 and link 43 by a flexible diaphragm 34 which is controlled by a valve 65 itself actuated by a flexible diaphragm 58 which is controlled by a unit (not shown) of known kind incorporating means for obtaining a constant cabin pressure up to a certain altitude and for maintaining a differential between cabin and atmospheric pressures above that altitude. The left-hand side of the diaphragm 34 is vented to the low pressure side of the outlet valve 22 and loaded by a spring 50 tending to close the outlet valve. The other side of the diaphragm 34 receives pressure air under control of the valve 65 from a chamber 62 which is connected by a conduit 15 to the delivery side of the cabin supercharger and contains a relief valve 81 for maintaining a, constant pressure. A bleed 40 interconnects the two sides of the diaphragm 34. The diaphragm 58 is subject on its righthand side to cabin pressure and to the load of a spring 70 and on its other side to a pressure obtained from a bleed 80 and governed by the control unit which is connected to a conduit 17. To operate the valve 22 manually, a handle 100 is depressed against a spring 100a to engage a clutch 23b whereby rotation of the handle operates the valve. A valve 85 actuated by a cam 94 relieves pressure to the right of the diaphragm 34 to facilitate manual closing of the valve 22.
