Abstract
763,147. Tea leaf harvesters. EMTAGE, J. E. R. May 27, 1955 [June 1, 1954], No. 16213/54. Class 6(2). A tea plucking or pruning machine adapted for mounting on a wheeled carriage comprises rotatable blades 41 which co-operate with the forwardly facing edge of a semicircular plate 33 provided with an opening 35 to allow plucked tea to fall into a container. As shown two sets of blades are provided forming helices of opposite hand and both tending to throw plucked leaf inwardly towards the centre of the machine. The blades 41 which are preferably of wood are driven by means of an engine 42 or an electric motor through a belt 43 or chain and sprockets. The plate 33, which is dished so that its surface slopes downwardly towards the opening, is supported by stays 44. For pruning purposes the plate 33 is replaced by a transverse bar-like blade having its forward edge formed as a cutting edge and the blades 41 are replaced by blade cylinders similar to that of a lawn mower. The machine may be mounted in a wheeled carriage as disclosed in Specification 751,388 [Group XXXII] adapted to be guided by operators walking one in front of and one behind the said carriage.
