Abstract

Naphthol dyeings and prints have their fastness to rubbing improved by after-treating them with a reaction product of at least 4 molecular proportions of an a : b -alkylene oxide with 1 molecular proportion of an organic compound which contains at least one basic primary or secondary amino group of contains a basic tertiary amino group and also an alcoholic hydroxyl group, or with a salt or quaternary ammonium salt of the reaction product. Specified a : b - alkylene oxides are ethylene oxide, propylene oxide and glycide. Specified basic compounds are aliphatic amines such as methyl-, ethyl-, diethyl-, butyl-, hexyl-, dodecyl-, cetyl-, oleyl- and octadecyl-amines, polyamines such as ethylene diamine and triethylene tetramine, amine derivatives such as coconut oil fatty acid triethanolamine ester and triethylene tetramine monoacylated with coconut oil fatty acid, aromatic amines such as those of the benzene or naphthalene series containing alkyl side chains, alicyclic amines such as abietylamine, abietylmethylamine, dehydrogenated abietylamine and the amine mixture corresponding to tall oil and amidines such as lauric and stearic acid amidines.
