Abstract

767,101. Spring frames for motor-cycles. MARSHALL, D. Dec. 15, 1954 [Sept. 16, 1953] No. 25606/53. Class 136(3). In a motor-cycle having a sprung rear wheel suspension in which each leg of the rear wheel fork is composed of a pair of pivotally mounted parallel links 1, 2 or 3, 4 which are pivotally interconnected by a wheel-carrying link 9 or 10, the four pivot points being arranged at the comers of a parallelogram and the wheel being mounted at 11 on the wheel carrying link with the axis of the wheel in the same relationship to the pivot points of the link as is the axis of the drive or secondary chain sprocket which is transmitted to the wheel in relation to the pivotal mounting points of the parallel links, the corresponding links of the different legs are joined by tubular cross-pieces through each of which passes a bearing pin acting as a common mounting pivot. As shown in Fig. 2, the upper links 1, 3 and lower links 2, 4 are rigidly connected by tubular cross-pieces 5, 6 respectively. Bearing pins 7, 8 pass through the crosspieces 5, 6. Lugs 12 project from the links 9, 10 for attachment of the wheel springing means.
