Abstract
750,875. Semiconductor devices. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES, Ltd. May 28, 1954 [June 3, 1953], No. 15834/54. Class 37. In a crystal contact device, the whisker 4 is positioned in a metal tube 5 which is crimped at one end to secure the whisker which engages the surface of crystal element 2. The whisker is bowed against one side of the tube by the contact pressure. The tube 5 and crystal 2 are supported by terminal members 7 and 3 which may be of lead plated steel or brass, and may be recessed to facilitate support. The elements are enclosed in a ceramic or plastic housing 1 which may be sealed by wax or plastic material 8. In a modification, the member 7 is provided with a hole so that it serves the same purpose as tube 5. The crystal may be germanium or silicon. The length of the whisker may be selected according to reactance requirements for high frequencies.
