Abstract

758,229. Yarns and threads. SOC. RHOVYL. Aug. 20, 1954 [Sept. 11, 1953], No. 24337/54. Class 120 (3). A fancy, voluminous yarn having a curly or spirally-wound appearance is formed by spinning together into yarn two rovings at least one of which consists at least in part of fibres which are more shrinkable relative to other fibres present in the yarn and are non-uniformly distributed therein, and subjecting this yarn to a treatment, e.g. by means of heat or steam or boiling aqueous liquid at a temperature of 100- 120‹ C., to cause shrinkage (and, if appropriate, swelling) of the shrinkable fibres. The " non- shrinkable " fibres may be linen, cotton, wool, viscose staple, cellulose acetate, polyamide, stabilized polyvinyl chloride, polyacrylonitrile, or polyester fibres; the shrinkable fibres may be of stretched polyvinyl chloride. Differently coloured fibres may be used in the rovings and/or rovings of different colour may be combined. The yarn may be subjected to normal textile aftertreatments including doubling and selective dyeing.
