Abstract
754,093. Internal shoe-drum brakes. BENDIX AVIATION CORPORATION. Dec. 13, 1954 [Dec. 28, 1953], No. 36041/54. Class 103 (1). In an internal shoe-drum brake, the shoes 10 and 12 are arranged to anchor by abutment of the pistons 42 upon members 38 disposed transversely across the middle of the actuator cylinders. Such members 38 being provided with longitudinal passages therein affording hydraulic inlet to, and exit from, the wheel cylinders and arm secured to the torque spider 38. A strut 46 transmits thrust from one of the pistons 42 to shoe 12 by means of a pivoted lever 52 which increases the force on the shoe. Thrust between the other piston 42 and shoe 10 takes place through a threaded rod 48 co-operating with a crown-wheel 74 and star-wheel 76 to provide an adjustment mechanism. The shoes have parallel web members 16 and-18 and are guided laterally by bands 77 disposed therebetween and secured at each end to the spider member 28 which withstands all the brake torque.
