Abstract

A pearlescent plastic composition contains polystyrene of intrinsic viscosity in toluene between 0.7 and 1.25 (e.g. of molecular weight 70,000 to 100,000) and polyvinyl acetate of intrinsic viscosity in ethyl acetate between 0.2 and 2.0 (e.g. of molecular weight 37,000 to 170,000). Optional ingredients are natural rubber, synthetic rubber, e.g. of the butadiene/styrene type, specified orange and blue dyestuffs, cadmium primrose pigment and plasticizers, lubricants, natural and synthetic resins. In examples granules of the two polymers are mixed and extruded into strips which are cut into pellets and then moulded.ALSO:A pearlescent plastic composition contains polystyrene of intrinsic viscosity in toluene between 0.7 and 1.25, polyvinyl acetate of intrinsic viscosity in ethyl acetate between 0.2 and 2.0 and natural rubber. Optional ingredients are dyestuffs, pigments, plasticizers, lubricants, natural and synthetic resins. The blending may be effected by mixing in the form of powders, granules or pellets before binding with heat and pressure.
