Abstract

740,962. Two-stroke engines. ELLUL, H Nov. 21, 1952 [Aug. 21, 1952], No. 18350/51. Class 7(2) [Also in Group XXVI] A prime mover comprises power means 1 operating by internal combustion, and supply pump means 12 and metering pump means 19 both driven by the power means, the outlet 17 of the supply pump being connected to the inlet 23 of the metering pump, and the outlet 24 of the latter being connected to the inlet 7 of the power means, the metering pump having a smaller volumetric delivery than either the power means or the supply pump. The devices 1, 12, 19, shown are all of the rotary type with sliding abutments 6, 15, 22, eccentrically mounted rotary pistons 3, 14, 21, and cylinders 2, 13, 20, but in a modification they are of the reciprocating piston type. The pistons shown in the diagrammatic drawing, Fig. 1, are all mounted on a shaft 11 and their cylinders are all of the same diameter. The pistons 3, 14, are identical in size but the piston 21 is larger and therefore gives a smaller volumetric ,delivery. The carburreter is indicated at 18 and the sparking plug at 10a. By this arrangement both the supply and metering pumps deliver at a higher pressure than exists at their intakes. In the case of areciprocating engine, each of the three devices 1, 12, 19, may consists of a cylinder open at the bottom and having at the top an inlet valve which opens during the down stroke of the piston and an exhaust valve which opens during the upstroke.
