Abstract
745,078. Ammunition projectiles; selfpropelled missiles. URDAPILLETA, J. L. A. June 12, 1953 [Sept. 29, 1952], No. 16266/53. Classes 9(1) and 9(2) A projectile, rocket, grenade or the like comprises a housing enclosing an explosive charge and provided with grooves on its exterior and a confining bar helically wound around said housing so as to lie transversely to said grooves and define therewith a desired pattern of fragmentation. A grenade, Fig. 3, or a shell, Fig. 5 (not shown), is provided with grooves 3 and is bound with wire 1 which is enclosed in a casing 5; the diameter of the wire and the spacing of the grooves determining the size of the fracture sections. When applied to a grenade the casing 5 may be dispensed with. The housing 2 of the projectile may be made of thin plate, pasteboard, synthetic plastic or thermo-hardening material.
