Abstract
744,909. Carbon paper. FRANCIS, F. G. Feb. 26, 1954 [March 11, 1953], No. 6743/53. Class 100 (4). A carbon paper has directly applied to one or both sides a supporting film of polythene which serves to prevent it curling during use. The polythene may include polyisobutylene or be compounded with white or coloured pigments; fillers to effect a rough surface may also be incorporated. The carbon paper may be produced by extruding a thin film from a press at a temperature of 150‹ C. directly on to one side of a moving paper web while applying pressure thereto, and thereafter applying a transfer composition to the paper web on one or the other side. The thickness of the film may be adjusted by control of the speed of the paper web or the rate of extrusion of the film. In an alternative arrangement, a film not more than 0.0005 inch thick may be applied first and the transfer composition applied at a temperature of 120- 200‹ C. so that the polythene and the transfer composition slightly intermingle.
