Abstract
730,920. Discharge apparatus. PHILIPS ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES, Ltd. April 2, 1953 [April 9, 1952], No. 9212/53. Class 39 (1). A control grid 5 is provided in the highvacuum cold-cathode rectifier tube described in Specification 730,862. The tube comprises a rod anode 2 and helical cathode 4 separated by and in intimate contact with an insulator 3. The auxiliary electrode 6 is normally connected to the anode 2 during operation of the tube and functions as an auxiliary anode. The operation of the tube depends on the emission of secondary electrons from the surface of the insulator 3 following the field emission of primary electrons at the line of contact between the cathode and the insulator.
