Abstract

730,046. Nozzles. PYRENE CO., Ltd. Oct. 22, 1953 [Nov. 3, 1952], No. 27634/52. Class 69 (3). A nozzle which is adjustable to vary the spread of foam therefrom comprises a tube 3 in which radial vanes 4 are mounted to turn about radial pins 5 from positions in which they are parallel to the tube axis so that a solid. jet is produced, to positions in which they lie at varying angles to the axis so that the foam is swirled and scattered. Each vane consists of a flat plate with its outer edge conforming to the tube inner wall in the position of maximum inclination to the tube axis. A lug 12 on each vane projects through a slot 13, and engages a slot 14 in the end of a screw 15 mounted in a ring 8 supporting a handle 11. The vanes are turned about their pins by turning the ring. Alternatively, the vanes are spaced from the inner wall of the tube and may include obstructions for breaking up the spray.
