Abstract
739,856. Pipe couplings. LAYCOCK ENGINEERING, Ltd. March 24, 1954, No. 8551/54. Class 99 (1). The coupling comprises a spigot member 7 which is advanced into the cylindrical bore 4 of a socket member 9 by a coupling nut 8 rotatably mounted on the spigot and screwing on to the socket, and a spring-loaded valve 2 contained within a chamber 1 of the socket and having a hollow stem 3 which fits within the bore 4 and has openings 3B. The valve is raised from its seat 6 by the spigot after the latter has passed a sealing ring 12 located in the socket recess 13. The parts are so arranged that the seal is broken on disconnection before the nut disengages from the socket screw thread, pressure being relieved through a hole 11 in the nut. The nut may be mounted by a pair of transverse pins 19 engaging between collars 17 on the spigot.
