Abstract
735,524. Colour and stereoscopic television tubes. PHILIPS ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES, Ltd. July 25, 1952 [July 28, 1951]; No. 18859/52. Class 39 (1). In a colour or stereoscopic television receiver the electron beam before striking the luminescent or incandescent screen passes through two parallel wire grids 1, 2 in which the wires of one grid lie centrally behind the apertures of the other grid, the direct voltages on the grids and the field electrode 3 are higher than the cathode voltage, and an alternating voltage supplied to at least one grid produces a displacement of the point of impact of the beam on the screen for scanning different colour bands. The field electrode may be the luminescent screen itself which if not conductive should contain metal elements, or it is a metal grid or layer near to or integral with and on either side of the screen. The spacing of the grids is small and may be a fifth of the grid-field electrode spacing. The screen may carry strips of different luminescent materials or be backed by a filter composed of strips with different colour absorptions; alternatively the scanning image is focused on to a screen painted in strips of different colours arranged parallel to the grid wires. The colour filter may be replaced by polarizing filters for stereoscopic reproduction. Specifications 733,176 and 735,525 are referred to.
