Abstract

Plasticized polyvinyl compound compositions are made by grinding a finely divided polyvinyl compound with a liquid plasticizer, e.g. tricresyl phosphate, without heat until a particulate substantially dry powder is obtained. If desired the composition may be heated at a temperature below that at which gelling takes place in order to effect adsorption of the plasticizer without coalescence of the particles. The resulting composition may subsequently be sintered and then re-ground to a crumb-like condition. The composition may contain fillers, e.g. titanium dioxide, and pigments. The polyvinyl compound may be polyvinyl chloride or a copolymer of vinyl chloride and vinylidene chloride and/or vinyl acetate. The composition may be used for coating plywood, synthetic resin sheets, layers of paper impregnated and bonded with a phenolic resin, or made into self-supporting sheets. The products may be used for covering walls or table tops.
