Abstract

721,833. Screw-and-nut gearing.. DAIMLER CO., Ltd. Dec. 1, 1952 [Sept. 1, 1951], No. 20667/51. Class 80 (3) In a screw-and-nut steering mechanism, a rotatable nut 3 axially moves a screw 1 through the medium of several series of balls 7 which are circulated in separate helix turns in the screw, the screw being formed with a thread slightly deeper than the ball radius and having the ends of each helix turn connected by deep transfer grooves 19 formed in a plate 15 which is inserted in a longitudinal slot in the screw. The grooves may be of the form shown or may conform to the transfer passages described in Specification 686,319, the leading edge of each transfer port being preferably canted. According to the Provisional Specification, the curved transfer passages may be replaced by straight diagonal slots having inclined side walls.
