729,484. Friction clutches. TRIST & CO., Ltd., H. H. P. Aug. 18, 1953 [Sept. 19, 1952; Sept. 19, 1952; Oct. 31, 1952], Nos. 23546/52, 23547/52 and 27392/52. Class 80 (2). [Also in Group XXXIV] A clutch lining is provided with a friction surface comprising sintered metal material which is rigidly attached to a non-distensible backing shell as a plurality of relatively small separate pieces. The sintered ,;'metal parts may take the form of islands of such metal in any desired regular or irregular shapes, preferably small discs, or it may be inserted as transverse bands dividing up the surface af the backing material. Such backing material may be resin-bonded asbestos or vulcanized or resin bonded fibre.
