726,437. Winding machine control means. REINERS, W. Feb. 9, 1953 [Feb. 9, 1952], No. 3648/53. Classes 120 (2) and 120 (3). An automatic winding machine of the kind including a thread detector arranged to initiate automatic control processes for reconstituting the thread line between the winding-off bobbin and the winding-on drum or the like, in response to absence or slackness of the thread passing the detector, includes means, responsive to interruptions in the operation of the machine which cannot be fully corrected by the control processes themselves, for preventing the initiation or completion of the automatic control processes when such interruptions occur. In the arrangement of winding machine shown, normally, on thread breakage or slackening the detector 39 moves in a clockwise direction making contacts 49, 45 causing withdrawal of armature 58 from switch plate 56 and the initiation of thread tying or fresh " winding- off " bobbin supplying, &c., operations. During the control process plate 53 rotates lifting rod 51 and thus restoring the detector 39 to its operative position. Should however, for example, the winding-on bobbin 4 reach a predetermined size the control process is prevented from being initiated by a hook 25 swinging under the projection 44 of the detector 39. The movement of hook 25 is brought about by the parts 9, 8, 13, 15, 18, 19 and 20. Again when the supply of winding-off bobbins 65 is exhausted movement of the detector 39 is prevented by the projection 63 of lever 61, 62 engaging projection 43 of the detector 39. Initiation of the control processes may also be prevented by apparatus responsive to the number and frequency of thread breaks, control process failures, other interferences or stoppages, &c. To this end a bimetallic strip 36 and heater element 37 are provided. When the strip 36 reaches a predetermined temperature the hook 35 releases the lever 30, 29 which under the action of spring 32 moves in a clockwise direction and bears against stop 16 on rod 15 and this brings hook 35 under projection 44. Manual means in the form of a knob 26 controlling an eccentric 27 are also provided, the eccentric 27 bearing on stop 17 moves rod 15 and brings the hook 25 under projection 44. Indicating or warning apparatus may be arranged to co-operate with the preventer mechanism so as to come into operation whenever the thread detector is prevented from operating. Such apparatus preferably gives an indication of the cause of the stoppage.
