Abstract

713,682. Yarn-twisting apparatus. COURTAULDS, Ltd. Dec. 17,1952 [Dec. 18, 1951], No. 29568/51. Class 120(2) An apparatus for twisting two or more yarns without appreciably altering the twist of the individual yarns about their own axes comprises at least two yarn packages on hollow skewers arranged so that yarn drawn from one package on one skewer will balloon around a yarn package on the other skewer, a hollow rotatable spindle in which the yarns are brought together and on which one package skewer is freely mounted and a positive metering device within an enlargement of the hollow rotatable spindle around which the yarns pass prior to being twisted together. As shown yarn 7 is drawn off the package 1 through a guide 4 and a disc tensioning device 5 and passes downwards through the hollow skewer 2 to a guide 6. It then forms a balloon about the second let off package 8 by virtue of its passing through a flyer 17 rotating with the housing 21 of spindle 12 driven by pulley 16. From the flyer 17 the yarn passes through opening 28 into the housing 21. Yarn 20 from the package 8 passes through a guide 18 and a disc tensioning device 19 into the hollow skewer 9 and then into the hollow spindle 12. Both the yarns 7 and 20 are passed for one complete turn round the roller 22 and are twisted together in the spindle 12. The twisted yarn 24 passes out of the spindle 12 and is collected on a take up package (not shown). The roller 22 may be replaced by a small thread storagethread advancing device.
