Abstract

712,699. Granulating metals. GLACIER METAL CO., Ltd. Oct. 3, 1952 [July 13, 1952], No. 16653/51. Class 82 (2) Metals are granulated by atomizing a jet of molten metal issuing through a discharge nozzle from a crucible, characterized in that the atomization is effected by the use of a jet or jets of a liquid or gaseous inert agent in the presence of hydrogen. The inert agent may be nitrogen or solid carbon dioxide in solution in alcohol and the hydrogen may be added to the molten metal either as such or in a hydrogen-forming substance. As'shown, the metal issues from a crucible through a jet 3 with an annular atomizing gas stream from orifice 2. Hydrogen is fed into the space above the orifice through a pipe 5.
