Abstract
712,382. Restoring shape of drums &c. KRADOSKA, E. C. Sept. 26, 1952, No. 24195/52. Classes 83 (2) and 83 (4) Rolling.-A machine for removing dents and bumps from a metal body such as a drum having a bead or annular bulge comprises internal and external rolls one of which has at least one circumferential groove for accommodating the bead or bulge, means for moving one roll into operative position relatively to the other and means for rotating at least one of the rolls. The machine frame has a horizontal tubular arm 10 supporting a roll 12 with axially extending lugs 20 to which is bolted an extension 26 of the roll. A yoke 74 above the roll 12 carries two rolls 62, 64, the latter being driven by a reversible motor through a shaft 78 and universal joint 76. Each upper roll has a groove 68 to receive an annular bulge of a drum 28 and, adjacent one end, a smaller groove 66 to receive the end bead 130 of the drum. Rolls 62, 64 may be moved down to co-operate with the roll 12 by a compressed air cylinder 90 acting against a return spring 100. Opposite the grooves 68 is a gap between the parts 12 and 26 of the lower roll and in this gap is a plate 30 having a rim complementary to the grooves. The plate has comparatively large holes 32, Fig. 10, through which pass the lugs 20 so that normally the plate hangs down away from the grooves 68 when a plain part of the drum is being rolled. By moving axially a shaft 38 so that an enlarged end 44 thereof enters and engages a central hole of the plate, the plate is moved into a position concentric with the roll 12 from which it projects into the grooves 68 for reshaping a bulge. For reshaping an end bead, a member 118 may be lowered on to the roll 12 to form a stop against which the end of the drum is positioned. The chimb at the closed end of the drum may be rolled as shown in Fig. 13. The lower part of the drum is supported by a tilting frame carrying two rollers 108.
