Abstract
711,497. Copying-telegraphy. EASTMAN KODAK CO. July 17, 1951 [July 18, 1950], No. 16886/51. Class 40 (3) A multiple stylus recording apparatus comprises a number of pivoted bell-crank levers disposed side-by-side with the arms carrying the styli located in a plane through the axis and the other arms, which are inclined at progressively increasing angles relative to the first arms, are associated with a plurality of electromagnetic devices which simultaneously actuate the bell cranks. In effect the electromagnetically operated ends of the levers are disposed on a segment of a helix whose extent in its axial direction corresponds to the width of the image (letter, character) on the recording medium. As shown in Fig. 1 bell-cranks 10 pivoted at 14 have stylus points 11 linearly disposed across a tape 27 and the arms 12 splayed in the form of an open fan have armature members 13 co-operating with stationary armatures or cores 20 surrounded by double coils C to which are fed currents corresponding respectively to black and white and derived by scanning a message on a tape or generated by code cams shaped to produce impulses corresponding to the analysis of the character into a number of parallel bands. The members 20 are disposed between pole-pieces 15 associated with a permanent magnet 17 and located at different positions by steps on a main frame 16. The cores 20 are located between members 21 accurately fixed to the main frame 16 and wedging members 22 engaged by screws 36 passing through over-sized ho!es in the members 21. The movements of the arms 12 are damped by pads 31, Fig. 3, carried by adjustable screws 32 threaded into the main frame 16 and into an arcuate yoke member 33. In a modified arrangement, Fig. 5 (not shown), two sets of bell cranks have their recording ends reduced in width, interleaved and in line across the recording tape.
